FOSTER CARE

Providing a temporary home for those in need.

When an animal arrives at BAS who is not quite ready for adoption, BAS relies on the love and homes of our foster care volunteers. These volunteers open their homes to kittens and puppies needing time to grow, dogs or cats who need a little extra attention, or a companion animal recovering from an illness or injury.

For more information contact the BAS Foster Care Coordinator, Krystle Gervais (email, 979-775-5755)

Volunteer Qualifications

  • Only Brazos County residents are eligable to foster animals for the Brazos Animal Shelter.
  • Foster parents must be able to provide a safe, loving and stable environment for the foster animal.
  • Experience with animal behavioral or medical issues is a plus, but is not necessary.
  • Foster parents must have common sense and patience, as well as be willing to nurse any injury and/or illness — with the understanding that some issues may result in the death of an animal.
  • Foster parents must be able to transport their foster animal to and from the Brazos Animal Shelter during business hours, and to and from veterinarian providers, should the need arise.
  • If the foster parent has other animals, they must be currently vaccinated and licensed.

Steps To Becoming A Foster Parent

In order to become a foster parent you must first attend a volunteer/foster orientation.

Orientations are on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings at 5:30pm. The orientation is about 45 minutes. Please be on time, because we strive to start on time.

If you rent and/or have roommates, please have the conversation about fostering with them to ensure that everyone wants to partake in this adventure.
