We Need People Like YOU!

Are you interested in getting involved in your community? One of the most rewarding places to volunteer is the animal shelter. The Brazos Animal Shelter is always in need of volunteers whether you are able to spend a few hours a week, come in once a month or stop by daily.
Not only can you volunteer at the shelter, but you could help to foster animals that are not ready for adoption. These animals may need medical assistance or are just too young to adopt out.

Other ways to volunteer are helping with seasonal events like Wienerfest, or ongoing projects like the mobile adoption team.

If you are a group or organization looking to become volunteers, please contact Krystle to find out about training opportunities.

Here are just a few of the benefits of volunteering:

  • Be part of the solution. You'll join a network of people working to make the world safe and more humane for all living creatures. You'll make the jobs of everyone working for animals a little easier by lending a hand and spreading the message of responsible pet ownership.
  • Get warm fuzzies. You'll never find a more grateful and accepting comrade than an animal you have comforted. Who can't use another loyal support in life?
  • Keep good company. You'll make lots of new friends—and not just the four-legged kind. Working side by side with people who share similar interests can forge lifelong friendships.
  • Meet the new you. You'll discover skills you never knew you had, and you may be surprised at what you're capable of achieving.
  • Gain a new career. You'll learn things that may lead you to the career—or career change— of your dreams. Employers and college admissions officers look favorably on time spent in volunteer service.
  • Enjoy a wagging tail, a purr, and a smile. Didn't someone once say that the best things in life are free?

Special Events and the
PetSmart/Mobile Adoption Team

The Brazos Animal Shelter has quite a few seasonal events. These events include specials for the holidays, such as Christmas, Valentine’s Day, “Fall in Love” and Adopt-a-thon, which all take place here at the shelter. There are also events like Wienerfest, which takes place in October, at Veteran’s Park in College Station. For these types of events we need extra volunteers to help put on the event – whether it is helping with the animals or the general public. Be sure to check the calendar online for upcoming events.

The Brazos Animal Shelter also takes dogs and cats out of the shelter for “mobile adoptions.” A mobile adoption could take place at PetSmart or a large community event. This gives the animals a chance to be seen by people who may not physically come into the shelter on a normal day.
The newest team of volunteers is the PetSmart Adoption Team. The team consists of all volunteers who take on the role of “leader” or “sidekick.” The leaders are trained to know the paperwork aspect of the adoption and have a great deal of knowledge about the shelter. The sidekicks (any age – with training) are a key part of the team. They assist the leaders by handling the pets and talking to people about the pets that are available and the shelter. The PetSmart Adoption Team is growing and always looking for new members! The mobile adoptions at PetSmart are held on Saturdays from 12-5PM. If you are interested in becoming a part of this team, please contact Krystle at 979-775-5755.
